This morning I decided to set a budget for my trip to the grocery store. I just got back from a weekend trip on Monday so I needed to pick up some food and snacks for the rest of the week at home. In this post I am going to explain how I purchased 12 healthy items for only $20!
I went to Mother’s Market first to get a few snacks. Here I picked up:
2 Solely Fruit Jerky $1.49ea
1 Epic Venison Steak Jerky $2.19
1 Coyo Yogurt (Natural flavor) $3.79
I spent $8.96 for these 4 items. These snacks will last me for 3 days at least and the coconut yogurt is very rich so I like to split it up into 2 meals. I eat half of it one day with berries, granola, honey, etc. and save the other half for another day! It works great and is a very filling snack or breakfast!
The other store I went to was Trader Joe’s. Trader Joes’s is AMAZING if you are on a budget!! You can get some pretty great quality items (be sure to check ingredients before you buy) for an unbeatable price.
I bought:
1 bag of Wheat Bagels (6 count) $2.29
1 can of Green Jackfruit $1.99
2 bananas $.19ea
2 large Sweet Potatoes $.89ea
1 Ginger Lemon Healthade Kombucha $2.99 (the cheapest I’ve seen!!)
1 avocado $1.99
These 8 items cost me $11.47 in total. The bagels will last me for 6 different meals, varying how I top them- with avocado, peanut butter/bananas, cream cheese, or a fried egg. The can of jackfruit, when shredded and cooked in the recipe I will be posting soon can make 2 meals. Bananas are a great snack or are great to add to breakfast.
I usually prep the sweet potatoes in the beginning of the week by cutting them into rounds and roasting them in the oven on 400 degrees until cooked how you like them! 2 sweet potatoes could easily last me up to 2 weeks. 1 avocado is great to split up between 2 meals along with the kombucha too!
Most of these items I will prep and add to bowls of mixed greens and brown rice to make a substantial lunch! Shopping on a budget can actually be fun and help not to waste food that just sits in the fridge. This helps to save money and teach you to not over buy groceries!
In total I spent $20.43 on a variety of healthy items that can be used for more than 1 meal!
